Some of our Puffer Boxes will include gorgeous glass pipes and bubblers that you will want to keep looking amazing. But after frequent use, your glass pipe will get murky, cloudy and full of ash. The traditional thing to do is go to your nearest head shop, buy some expensive pipe cleaner and get to cleaning. Or even worse, you’ll have to buy the cleaner online and wait. But there’s an easier and cheaper way to get the job done with stuff you may already have around the house.
Here’s the things you’ll need for our pipe cleaning project:
- Glass Pipe
- Isopropyl Alcohol (the higher percentage the better)
- 2 tbsp of salt
- 1 tbsp of oxy clean (optional)
- zip lock bag
We bought a 32 oz bottle of 91% isopropyl alcohol at our nearest Target for $3.50. This should allow us to create about 3 cleaning solutions. This will run about a $1.16 per cleaning. Compare our alcohol bottle to a $15 bottle of glass cleaner and you’re saving a whopping 77% in cash!
But let’s get started. My pipe has seen daily use for about six months. As you can see from the image above, it’s quite dirty.
Step 1: Try to shake off any loose ash and debris from the pipe by holding it upside down and gently tapping on its sides.
Step 2: Take a quart size zip lock bag and place the pipe along with two tablespoons of salt inside. Any Freezer labeled bag should do the trick. If you have any Oxy Clean powder, you can add a tablespoon of that too. Totally optional, but the stuff works wonders.
Step 3: Pour enough isopropyl alcohol to completely cover the pipe, then carefully shake the bag and liquid back and forth allowing the cleaning solution to make its way through the pipe’s chambers.
Step 4: As you can see, the cleaning solution starts to work right away, the clear liquid quickly will start turning cloudy. Let this bag sit in the mixture for about 12 hours or overnight.
I let my pipe sit overnight and took it out of the bag in the morning. I removed a tiny speck of stuck ash with a pipe cleaner and now it looks brand new! Depending on how dirty your pipe is, you may need to repeat the cleaning procedure.
